Firefighters Battle Thousands of Blazes in Brazilian Wetlands

Almost 4,000 fire spots had been reported in Brazil’s Pantanal region, the world’s largest wetland, since the beginning of November, as local firefighters continued to battle the out-of-control blazes, local news reported. The fires were burning between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul in Western Brazil, and around 100 people were working to fight eight forest fire fronts in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, according to reports. On Sunday, the air quality in the city of Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul, was rated as “bad” by authorities as smoke from the fires choked the region, local news reported.
