Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says his government will continue consulting over its plans to control the order in which apps are displayed on smart TVs.
Labor s reforms would drastically change the way Australians watch and search for news, sport and drama on their Smart TVs by prioritising free-to-air content.
The free-to-air prominence push could come at the expense of more relevant programming and ad-free sporting coverage offered by broadcasters like Foxtel.
Speaking to Sky News Australia about the so-called prominence laws, the Prime Minister praised Foxtel s content and flagged further consultation before the controversial changes come before the Parliament.
“This is simply about making sure people can get access in a reasonable way but that’s why we’re consulting – to make sure that we get the detail right,” he told Sky News Australia.
