Chubby Alaskan Bear Cubs Find New Home at Chicago Zoo

Brookfield Zoo in Chicago announced the arrival of two new residents on Monday, November 20, sharing footage of 10-month-old brother and sister brown bear cubs. The pair of orphaned cubs arrived from Anchorage on November 3 in a collaborative effort with the Alaska Zoo and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. They are currently acclimating “behind the scenes,” Brookfield Zoo said in a press release, adding that the zoo anticipates “they will be making their public debut in the near future.” The zoo estimated the bears are approximately 10 months old and 150 pounds each. “We are happy to be able to provide the bear cubs a home, where they will receive the best possible care, although the situation is bittersweet,” said Mark Wanner, the zoo’s Director of Carnivore/Small Mammal Care and Conservation. Footage shows the fluffy siblings’ arrival via a FedEx bearliner from Alaska, as well as the cubs receiving physical examinations last week, the zoo said.
