Albanese government to seek legal advice on released asylum seekers

The Albanese government has sought legal advice on re-detaining asylum seekers released from indefinite detention after a High Court ruling. The High Court ruled on November 8 to allow stateless detainees into the community despite some of them being convicted criminals. This follows a bipartisan decision to pass laws placing restrictions on those released from detention. The laws include measures such as ankle bracelets and curfews. Home Affairs Minister Clare O Neil has flagged further restrictions and may consider implementing laws similar to the set used to deal with terrorists.
