‘It Has to Stop!’: Vigil Held Outside Stonewall Inn for Nex Benedict

Large crowds gathered to take part in a vigil outside New York’s iconic Stonewall Inn on February 26, following the death of non-binary teenager Nex Benedict. The 16-year-old died on February 8, a day after they were involved in a fight at their high school in Owasso, Oklahoma. Police said preliminary findings of an autopsy showed that Nex “did not die as a result of trauma.” The teenager’s death is under investigation, according to police. This footage, filmed by Ryan Donohue, shows crowds chanting “this has to stop!” and “shame” outside the Stonewall Inn on Monday evening. Vigils for Benedict were held across the country, including in Oklahoma, in the days following the student’s death. Credit: Ryan Donohue via Storyful
